What is Parity?
What Parity Means to Us
Here at ParityForPalomar, this means Equal Pay for Equal Work.
PFF is our faculty Union that fully embodies the union motto:
“An injury to one is an injury to all.”
One colleague being underpaid is an affront to all faculty.
Why Parity Matters to ALL Faculty
There are many reasons this should matter to all Palomar Faculty, these are just a few we came up with.
Student Support
Faculty are here to support students' education goals. Regardless of who their teacher is, it is imperative that students have equal access to education and support from their instructors.
Numbers Matter
Part-Time faculty make up about 70% of faculty at Palomar College and teach about 50% of the classes. As of 2021, these issues affect 615 Part-Time faculty out of a total of 888 faculty.
Two Tiers
Currently, we have a two tier system that devalues Part-Time faculty. We believe in Equal Work for Equal Pay for Equal Credentials. This means proportional pay for proportional work.
Momentum
The issue of parity for Part-Time faculty has momentum at the state level with TWO Assembly Bills (1752 and 1856) and increased budgeting for healthcare.
HOW CAN YOU HELP CLOSE THE PARITY GAP?
Parity cannot not be reached without your support and effort.
